Staying Together

December 26th, 2008 by Laura M. Brotherson

The Osmond Brothers (2nd Generation) sang this song “We’re Staying Together” as a tribute to their parents who recently celebrated their 34th wedding anniversary. It’s true that the greatest gift one can give a child is for their parents to love each other in marriage. I was particularly impressed with this song, which encourages couples to shut out the voices that tempt them with thoughts and actions that could destroy their marriage. “How We Met” Story #1 — Kevin & Laura

Kevin and Laura

Married 18 years

Kevin and I were both attending Brigham Young University when a chance encounter brought us together. I had missed the first week of the winter semester for a business trip, so on arriving home Sunday, I attended my previous ward (congregation) church services, since I had missed mine. There in the pews was a row of handsome guys that I hadn’t seen before!

Later that evening at a church meeting a friend introduced me to one of the tall good looking guys that I had seen earlier that day in church. His name was Kevin. As luck would have it, when I walked into my Religion class on Tuesday, there sat that same good-looking guy, Kevin, that I had met Sunday evening. Happy Holidays for Your Honey

December 7th, 2008 by Laura M. Brotherson

Couple kiss Christmas

Don’t make your husband last on your list this Christmas. Make the holidays a little happier for your honey by paying attention to the Four A’s: Appreciation, Admiration, Attention and Affection. ~~~~~~~~~~~

Julie and April were helping in their children’s kindergarten class a few weeks before Christmas, as they discussed all the antics they had been through to get their kids the perfect Christmas gifts.

They laughed and giggled about all they had done to find just the right gifts, and to make their kids’ Christmas extra exciting. One of them had driven to four different locations of the same store just to find the specific longed-for remote control car that was a must-have on her son’s Christmas list.

The tone changed a bit when Julie said, “So, what are you getting your husband?” They both chuckled when they simultaneously quipped, “We know what they want, of course.” This was quickly dismissed as they pondered the necessary and practical gifts they needed to find for their husbands’ Christmas. Happily Married Couples Needed

November 28th, 2008 by Laura M. Brotherson

happy couple

How many happily married couples do you know? Would others describe you as happily married? If not, why? Do you know what it takes to not just get by in marriage, but to thrive?

Thriving in marriage is a worthy goal, but it’s more than just for the benefit of the couple. Research tells us that many young people have lost faith in marriage. They are afraid that happiness and long-term marriage aren’t even possible anymore. Continue reading “Happily Married Couples Needed” »

Pastor’s Advice for Better Marriage: More Sex

November 27th, 2008 by Laura M. Brotherson

GRAPEVINE, Tex. — And on the seventh day, there was no rest for married couples. A week after the Rev. Ed Young challenged husbands and wives among his flock of 20,000 to strengthen their unions through Seven Days of Sex, his advice was — keep it going.

Mr. Young, an author, a television host and the pastor of the evangelical Fellowship Church, issued his call for a week of “congregational copulation” among married couples on Nov. 16, while pacing in front of a large bed. Sometimes he reclined on the paisley coverlet while flipping through a Bible, emphasizing his point that it is time for the church to put God back in the bed.

“Today we’re beginning this sexperiment, seven days of sex,” he said, with his characteristic mix of humor, showmanship and Scripture. “How to move from whining about the economy to whoopee!” Continue reading “Pastor’s Advice for Better Marriage: More Sex” »
