Fireproof the movie is now out on DVD (as of January 27, 2009). This is a movie that no couple should miss! After going to see the movie with my husband, I wanted my kids to see it too. It was pretty funny to see all the couples in the movie theater and then me there with my three kids. They loved it though. My daughter even said it beat out High School Musical 3 (HSM3) as her favorite movie. (I’ll admit my kids may be a bit warped though having to live with a marriage maniac!) Exquisite efforts at self-mastery coupled with a willingness to protect rather than destroy make Edward Cullen an easy object of admiration. I’m inspired by what his character traits could add to our lives, and how it could strengthen our marriages.

Edward Cullen of Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight fame has captured many hearts and minds. I’m not a big fiction buff myself, especially when it comes to things like vampires. But there is definitely something profound for young and old, male and female alike to learn from Edward Cullen.
As a marriage educator, I’m all about strengthening marriages, so after reading a recent article titled, “What Girls Want: An Edward” it got me thinking about how important some of Edward’s character traits are, not only for our youth going through the potentially treacherous teen years, but for those of us who have moved on into marriage as well.

Robert and Hannah
Married 15 years
Robert and I met at an Institute of Religion Family Home Evening gathering in October of 1993. It was my freshman year of college and I think I only attended two of the weekly meetings. The first meeting I went with my roommates. It was a big gathering where we played group games. Unbeknownst to me I had caught a young man’s attention, but he never approached me that night.
