Novelty is Necessary to Keep the Spark Alive
October 8th, 2009 by Laura M. Brotherson

Novelty and newness activate the brain neurotransmitter dopamine in the brain, creating a feeling of excitement, optimism and elation. You can heighten your own and your sweetheart’s sense of novelty by introducing something new into your relationship — whether it’s inside the bedroom or out.
According to brain researcher Dr. Helen Fisher, the same area of the brain lights up in those who have recently fallen in love and those who are passionately in love after 20 years of marriage.
Those who stay married are able to experience the spark and excitement of “new love.” Rather than dumping the old and starting over with someone new and exciting, you can create excitement in your marriage by pursuing new activities and interests together.
